Guide

Completing your Profile

Your profile is the storefront of your casting taste. A complete profile gets you better Crew recommendations and makes your slates easier for like-minded casters to find. Here's what each field does.

Profile checklist

Three things to fill out. Takes about a minute.

  • 1

    Stage name + display name

The handle in your URL vs the free-form name on your profile. Different rules for each.

  • 2

    Avatar

Pick one of the film-themed frames — ticket stub, film canister, reel, clapperboard, and more.

  • 3

    Bio

A sentence or two. What do you love about casting?

Stage name vs display name

Cast Away separates these two on purpose — each has different rules because each serves a different role.

Stage name

@cinephile_42

The URL-safe handle people @-mention you by. Lowercase ASCII, 3–20 characters, letters / digits / underscore / hyphen. Enforced by a strict validator: no reserved words, no slurs, no impersonation of real actors. Change it at most once every 30 days.

Display name

James Flores 🎬

The free-form name shown on your profile. Up to 50 characters, full Unicode, emoji welcome. Change it whenever you like. No impersonation check — it's just what you want to be called.

Why split them?URLs and @-mentions need to be clean, predictable, and safe from impersonation. Display names need to be expressive. One field can't do both jobs well — so Cast Away has two, and each can evolve independently.

Avatar styles

Cast Away avatars are geometric film framesthat wrap around your stage name's first letter. Pick one that reflects your vibe. Free accounts get access to four starter frames; Auteur unlocks the full set.

Disco Reel

Frame colors respond to your chosen theme and to the Timeless / Current mode scope. Your avatar appears everywhere: the Crew sidebar, slate cards you've cast, tournament brackets, activity feeds.

Bio

A sentence or two about your taste. The best bios mention the directors or eras you love, the actors you can't stop casting, or the contrarian stance you're willing to defend.

"Casting daydreams, one slate at a time. Letterboxd & IMDB cinephile. Will die on the hill that Mads Mikkelsen should play every villain ever written."
